WWE Spoils Major Title Change

Times have certainly changed as WWE has made it clear in recent years that the company is more willing to crossover with other promotions. It was announced during WrestleMania weekend that WWE acquired AAA, and stars from both companies are set to face off at the upcoming Worlds Collide premium live event.

Chad Gable is set to face off against El Hijo del Vikingo at Worlds Collide and it was announced on Raw that the match will be for the AAA Mega Championship.

The big issue with the announcement is that El Hijo del Vikingo is not the current AAA Mega Champion as he’s currently set to challenge Alberto El Patron for the belt at the AAA TV tapings on May 31st, which means that WWE seemingly spoiled a big title change. On the Raw broadcast in Mexico the match was advertised as simply a singles match between Gable and Vikingo.

While talking about the upcoming match on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the mentality was that if they made the announcement in the United States, but not in Mexico then people wouldn’t catch on to the upcoming title change.

“In Mexico and the Mexican version of Netflix they had put up a different graphic and they didn’t mention that it was for the title because in Mexico, in theory, the people would know that Alberto was the champion but in the United States they wouldn’t know.”

“So that was the mentality for doing this and they thought that that was okay. And for whatever reason the mentality was, ‘Well if we only announce it in the United States, the people in Mexico aren’t gonna know’, not realising that everyone knew instantly.”

Worlds Collide will air live on Saturday, June 7th and the current card can be seen below.
