It was recently revealed that WWE’s flagship show Monday Night Raw will remain on USA Network, and now it’s being reported that SmackDown will be heading to Fox in 2019.
SmackDown Live currently airs on Tuesday nights, but The Wrap is reporting that WWE’s blue brand will be shifting to Friday nights when the show moves to Fox.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal between WWE and Fox is nearing completion and is said to be a five year deal worth more than $1 billion.
The deal will see Fox pay WWE $205 million annually is expected to begin in October of 2019.
It’s also being reported that WWE had an even higher bid from an enthusiastic third party, but in the end they went with Fox due to the network’s commitment in regards to promoting SmackDown during NFL and MLB events.
SmackDown went live after moving to Tuesday nights in 2016, but it’s now known at this time if the show will continue to air live once it moves to Fox. SmackDown Live has averaged 2.59 million viewers this year.
