WWE has recently been working on ways to increase their fanbase in India, which is one of the main reasons why Jinder Mahal was given a push towards the WWE Championship at Backash a few months ago.
It seems that one thing that has been missing is a female Indian wrestler to fly the flag for her nation as well, but WWE now has that covered. Jinder Mahal recently announced on his Twitter page that Kavita Devi has made history by becoming the first female wrestler of Indian origin to sign with the American wrestling promotion.
Kavita was first seen by the WWE Universe when she was part of The Mae Young Classic a few months ago where she turned heads when she was seen competing in a traditional salwar kameez. Even though she was knocked out of the competition in the early rounds, she seemingly left quite an impression since WWE have decided to sign her to a permanent contract.
Devi has been trained by former World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali as part of his Punjab based wrestling promotion and training school and also has a background in power lifting.
Kavita will be a welcome addition to WWE’s Women’s Division in a time when the women are finally being treated seriously and are definitely not strangers when it comes to creating history.
