Could WWE Be Set To Crown A New World Champion At Battleground?

Finally in less than two weeks time the most anticipated match of the modern era will come to pass as Dean Ambrose defends his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against his two former Shield teammates Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in the main event of this year’s Battleground.

The build up to the match has already taken the hit of not being able to include Roman Reigns following his suspension and now many current reports suggest that Ambrose’s reign as champion has been one of disappointment.

Dean was the final member of The Shield to be given the World title following successful reigns from his two former stable mates and many suggested that he could have been a last minute decision since Rollins was still not at a hundred percent and WWE were aware of Reigns’ violation to the Wellness Policy before his suspension.

The latest rumours now suggest that Ambrose could be set to drop his title at his first defence since speculated SummerSlam matches see Seth Rollins facing Roman Reigns for the World title.

It is unknown whether it will be Rollins or Reigns defending the Championship but to allow Reigns to walk back into the company after his recent violation to become a record setting four time World Champion would probably not be the best example to set to the WWE Universe.

This means that it could be the man that Ambrose cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on last month, Seth Rollins. Rollins would equal Reigns’ record of three WWE World Heavyweight Championship reigns if he is the one to win the title in a fortnight’s time.

Would this be the right idea? WWE have already played hot potato with the title by allowing it to change hands twice in one night at Money in the Bank, given that it changed hands at WrestleMania, The Royal Rumble and twice at Survivor Series last year.

Roman Reigns not being included in the build up has been a huge hit especially since Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn and The Club vs John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass are also happening on the same night and their build up seems to be hitting it’s stride much sooner than the main event that has been heavily anticipated.

WWE have made their universe anticipate this match for more than two years since the split of The Shield back in June 2014, but now it seems they are making a complete shambles of it. Plus they still haven’t revealed why the decision was made to put it on a C level pay-per-view event instead of waiting four weeks an putting it at SummerSlam.

Whether or not Ambrose was only given the title because Reigns was no longer allowed to hold it and was forced to sit out his suspension still remains to be seen, but it would be harsh of WWE to take the title away from him at his first defence.

Not only that but if Reigns and Rollins are set to once again fight in the main event then it would means that WWE will force Ambrose to cash in his rematch clause on an episode of Monday night Raw, which would be slightly harsh.

All of this does call into question the reasons why Ambrose was given the title in the first place, given how little Ambrose has done with the title over the past few weeks, Rollins could easily have kept the title instead and Ambrose could then have chased him with the briefcase in the coming weeks.

This would have added much more excitement to the upcoming match and Ambrose could still have cashed in his case and made the match a triple threat match.

With the upcoming brand split and the fact that WWE look set to split the title back down to two championships again it is a confusing time for the company and it’s current champions. Ambrose could instead be involved in the other title match at SummerSlam and could be drafted to Smackdown.

These rumours could also be false as many cards are subject to change, but the thought of either Rollins winning the title for the third time in a year and Reigns winning it for the fourth time in less than eight months shows the sheer state that the title picture in WWE is currently in.
