What’s old is new again as WWE recently introduced a new version of the LWO on WWE programming. The Latino World Order’s entrance music kicks off with the catchphrase “Viva La Raza” which was made popular in wrestling by Eddie Guerrero and the Los Guerreros tag team.
Chavo Guerrero recently explained to Sportskeeda Wrestling that he actually owns the trademark for “Viva La Raza” which led to him sending a cease and desist letter to WWE after the company started using the phrase on Eddie Guerrero merchandise.
“Well, you always want any time they use any of the stuff you came up with, sure, absolutely. Now, technically, from the rights, WWE owns that [entrance theme]. We did that on TV, so technically […] I trademarked ‘Viva La Raza,’ I own ‘viva la raza.’ If you look at any of the stuff, Eddie’s merchandise, probably like five years before, said ‘Viva la raza’ on it and I sent a cease and desist to WWE and they changed it to ‘Latino heat,’ because I own that [Viva La Raza].”
Even though Chavo sent a cease and desist letter to WWE in the past preventing them from using the phrase on Eddie Guerrero merchandise he clarified that he’s ok with “Viva La Raza” being used the LWO’s entrance music.
“So, hey, what are you gonna do? Are you gonna fight WWE? No. I’m cool with it. You got me on that, great. And just remember this – and this is not a bitter thing, just saying what it is – they rewrite wrestling history to really benefit WWE.”
Chavo Guerrero also recently shared his thoughts on the new LWO and you can get more on that here.
