The annual Royal Rumble premium live event took place from San Antonio on Saturday night and the show featured a musical performance this year. Hardy played his song “Sold Out” before the main event, but it doesn’t sound like the performance was well received.
Fightful Select reports that the Hardy performance was largely scoffed at by those they spoke to in WWE, and people felt like it compromised. It was also noted that the show went over time as it was originally scheduled to be four hours long but went about twelve minutes past the projected time.
Overall it seems that the Royal Rumble was a big success for WWE as the show drew a $7.7 million dollar gate. WWE pushed hard to implement more sponsors for the Royal Rumble this year with Triple H noting that they doubled their previous high for Royal Rumble sponsorship money.
One source noted that overall the atmosphere backstage was very laid back and added that the children of many wrestlers were backstage having fun. Stay tuned for more updates on the Royal Rumble as they become available.
