We’re less than one week away from the WrestleMania Backlash premium live event and Roman Reigns is riding a wave of momentum after defeating Brock Lesnar on the Grandest Stage of Them All last month. Fans have been wondering if Reigns would be defending his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania Backlash, but it doesn’t look like that will be happening.
This week on SmackDown, Drew McIntyre was involved in a segment with Roman Reigns and The Bloodline. WWE then announced that Drew McIntyre will team up with RK-Bro to face The Bloodline at WrestleMania Backlash.
There was speculation that McIntyre and Reigns would face off in a singles match at the event, but Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is holding the match off for a big event. Reigns is seen as WWE’s biggest star and Drew McIntyre is thought to be his biggest opponent right now.
Following WrestleMania Backlash the next premium live events scheduled are Hell in a Cell in June, Money in the Bank in July and SummerSlam in August. Money in the Bank and SummerSlam are both stadium shows, so it will be interesting to see when WWE ends up booking the match. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
