For the first time ever WrestleMania took place with no fans in attendance this year, and now the wrestling world is wondering if WWE could be facing a similar situation with SummerSlam.
As of this writing SummerSlam is currently scheduled to take place in Boston, MA on Sunday, August 23 but it’s been reported that WWE is seeking alternative locations for the event, and that it could get pushed back.
It looks WWE was originally going to have Sasha Banks challenge Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Title at SummerSlam, as WrestleTalk is reporting that the company has been planning the match for months.
However, WWE now wants to delay the match. It’s being said that WWE officials see more value in extending the feud and stretching it out.
Part of the reason why WWE wants to delay the match is because Sasha Banks is set to be the face in the feud, and WWE wanted her to get a big reaction from the Boston fans in her hometown.
SummerSlam has yet to be relocated, or postponed. Vince McMahon is reportedly hoping to hold the show in front of a live audience, but Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has made it clear that there won’t be any large public gatherings in the city until at least September.
The Sasha Banks vs. Bayley match is not completely off the table, but the company is currently exploring other options for the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at SummerSlam
