CM Punk was involved in a physical altercation with Jack Perry at AEW All In last week and the wrestling world had a lot of questions about Punk’s status following the show. All of those questions were answered today when Tony Khan issued a statement confirming that CM Punk’s AEW contract has been terminated.
AEW Collision is set to take place from Chicago tonight while WWE Payback will be airing live from Pittsburgh. Fightful Select is reporting that AEW firing CM Punk is a topic that is being heavily discussed backstage at the WWE Payback premium live event. It’s also being reported that there are dueling “CM Punk/Colt Cabana” chants ahead of Collision in Chicago.
CM Punk’s AEW departure has obviously shaken things up quite a bit, so it will be interesting to see how WWE reacts moving forward. There’s currently no word on whether or not WWE has any interest in bringing Punk back to the company, but the former WWE Champion did make a surprise appearance backstage at Raw back in April where he reportedly cleared the air with The Miz and briefly spoke with Triple H.
