Monday Night Raw is WWE’s flagship show, and the show has featured some big matches over the years. Back in May of 2005, Shelton Benjamin went one on one with Shawn Michaels, and their match is still talked about to this very day.
Shelton Benjamin recently reflected on his encounter with the Heartbreak Kid during an interview with WhatCulture, and he revealed that the match received a standing ovation when he returned backstage.
“That night after the match, when I went back into Gorilla [backstage], [there was a] standing ovation from everybody, and everyone kept saying how good it was, and it’s one of those things. I honestly didn’t really realize how good it was until, as I said, it kept getting all the fan fare.”
At one point during the match Shelton Benjamin jumped off the ropes right into a superkick from Shawn Michaels and the clip is still one that gets replayed often by fans. Although Shawn Michaels may be retired now Shelton Benjamin is still active and he recently celebrated his 20th anniversary with WWE.
