Roman Reigns is currently the top star in WWE and on the road to SummerSlam he and The Bloodline kicked off Monday Night Raw from Madison Square Garden on July 25.
The Bloodline cut a promo to open up the show, but they were interrupted by Theory. Following the opening segment Theory faced off against Drew McIntyre in a match that saw Drew win by DQ after the Brawling Brutes interfered.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that originally an in-ring promo segment was set to take place before the McIntyre vs. Theory match, but it had to be cut because Roman Reigns’ promo went long. It was also noted that because of the change the match was called in the ring as opposed to being planned out ahead of time.
Aside from key spots WWE is giving talent more freedom to improvise in the ring. The recent Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre match on SmackDown is an example where a lot of leeway was given with the match.
