ECW has long been defunct but it seems that the legacy of Extreme Championship Wrestling is still going strong as people all over the world continue to pay tribute to the promotion.
PWInsider is reporting that WWE made the decision to pull Hall of Famer and NXT coach D-Von Dudley from the Battleground Championship Wrestling event that took place from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA over the weekend.
Originally D-Von was set to appear at the convention before the show and he was also set to make an appearance during Bully Ray’s match with Matt Cardona later that night. The BCW promotion noted that they received a legal letter from WWE on Thursday indicating that the company was upset about BCW promoting a “Tribute to the Extreme” at their show. This was seen as BCW playing off the ECW intellectual property which is owned by WWE.
D-Von Dudley was pulled from the show and it’s being said that he personally reached out to WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque to get the decision reversed, but he wasn’t successful.
The show was headlined by Rhino vs. Rob Van Dam and Super Crazy vs. Juventud Guerrera. Other familiar names who appeared at the event included Shane Douglas, Pitbull Gary Wolf, Francine, Joel Gertner, 2 Cold Scorpio, Raven, The Sandman, Tod Gordon, Bill Alfonso, Sabu, Tommy Rich, Little Guido, The Blue Meanie, Al Snow, 911, Jim Mitchell and Gangrel.
