Over the last few years, tournaments have become popular in WWE again thanks to the Cruiserweight Classic, the Mae Young Classic, and the recent World Cup tournament.
King of the Ring is without a doubt one of the most popular tournaments WWE has ever presented, but WWE hasn’t used the concept in quite some time.
However, it sounds like the company could be putting a new spin on KOTR in 2019.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that a Queen of the Ring tournament is currently being discussed and could take place in 2019.
The idea is for the tournament to feature women from the main roster.
At this point it’s just an idea that’s been pitched, but the company is reportedly looking for new concepts for a second all women’s pay-per-view next year.
With Evolution getting such a positive reception it’s expected that WWE will likely do at least one all women’s pay-per-view a year.
