After the brand extension returned last summer everyone settled into their spots on Raw and SmackDown, but Jack Swagger crossed the battle lines when he jumped from the red brand to the blue brand. At first WWE made a big deal about the fact that he switched brands, but he quickly faded into obscurity after making the switch.
WWE hasn’t done much with Jack Swagger over the past few months, and he recently announced on Chael Sonnen’s podcast that he had requested his release from WWE. Swagger was later booked for a WAW show, but then he was pulled from the event after WWE announced that his release had not been granted.
Albero El Patron ended up replacing Swagger at the event, which took place over the weekend, and it looks like WWE officials were picking the right moment to say goodbye to Swagger, because he’s officially been granted his release.
WWE shared the customary release announcement earlier today when they posted the following on WWE.com:
“WWE has come to terms on the release of Jack Swagger as of today, March 13, 2017. WWE wishes Swagger the best in all his future endeavors.”
Jack Swagger’s career got off to a solid start in WWE as he was immediately featured as one of the top names in the ECW brand when WWE tried to revive the promotion. Swagger went on to become a ECW World Champion and he also won the United States Championship and World Heavyweight Championship during his run with the company.
Swagger’s most successful run came when he adopted the “We The People” gimmick and Dutch Mantell, working under the name Zeb Colter, started speaking for him as his manager.
Now that Dutch Mantell is working for Impact Wrestling, and Jack Swagger is a free agent, one can’t help but wonder if we’ll be seeing him in the Impact Zone sooner than later.
