Dolph Ziggler’s WWE status has been the topic of much debate over the last few weeks, but the former World Heavyweight Champion recently signed a new contract that will see him wrestle in a WWE ring for the next two years.
Not only is Dolph set to stick with the company for another two years, he will reportedly be making $1.5 million dollars a year with his downside guarantee.
Justin Burasso of Sports Illustrated is doubling down on claims that Dolph will be making $1.5 million a year saying that there are often misconceptions when it comes to wrestling contracts due to the secretive nature of the business.
At 37 years old, Dolph is preparing for life after WWE with his stand up comedy work and appearances on Fox Business Network. If Dolph had not signed a new contract, he would have had plenty of options, and the feeling is that he likely would have put on five star matches in New Japan with stars such as Kazuchika Okada.
However, WWE officials feel that Dolph is a necessary part of the WWE machine, so they made him a big offer to keep him happy.
It was noted that WWE’s digital revenue streams allow the company to offer big contracts when needed.
Dolph Ziggler is set to wrestle in the main event at the Fastlane pay-per-view where he will challenge for the WWE Championship in a Fatal 5 Way which will also include AJ Styles, Baron Corbin, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
