The Royal Rumble pay-per-view is quickly approaching, and recently WWE official Adam Pearce earned the right to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at the event.
Pearce didn’t seem all that thrilled about the match, but he appeared in the main event segment on SmackDown for a contract signing with Roman Reigns. Pearce signed the contract, then Roman signed, and after Roman signed Pearce said, “I’ve waited all night for you to do that.”
Adam Pearce then left the ring with the contract as Roman looked confused, and Pearce limped up the ramp.
Pearce got on the mic and said he has a nagging knee injury that’s creeping up on him at the worst possible time. He said standard WWE subjects all say “card subject to change” and that as a WWE official he reserves the right to find a suitable replacement, because he’s not sure if he’ll be medically cleared.
Kevin Owens then made his entrance and he signed the contract at the top of the ramp. Roman looked aggravated as the show went off the air. Owens will now face Roman in a Last Man Standing match at the Royal Rumble.
