Between Raw, SmackDown and NXT there are quite a few title belts under the WWE banner at the moment, and it looks like one belt is set to undergo a subtle name change.
PWInsider is reporting that WWE has issued an internal decree that going forward the NXT Women’s Championship will be referred to as simply the NXT Championship.
The decision was made to remove the gender specific designation for the title belt.
Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch noted on WWE Backstage this week that she believes WWE should stop referring to the women’s division as such and just present everything in the company, male and female, as just wrestling.
It seems that the change to the NXT Women’s Championship is the first step in that direction, but there’s currently no word on if WWE will be making similar changes to the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championship belts.
