Lacey Evans has been on the main roster for a few years and WWE keeps trying to find new ways to repackage her. Recently Evans has been leaning into a gimmick that has been compared to Sgt. Slaughter as she’s been wearing military gear and using the Cobra Clutch.
The gimmick hasn’t gone over all that well as Sgt. Slaughter’s daughter has called out Lacey Evans on social media, and Sgt. Slaughter apparently isn’t on board with Lacey using the Cobra Clutch because she didn’t ask permission.
During a recent interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, Sgt. Slaughter talked about Lacey Evans using the move and he noted that he no longer watches SmackDown because she’s on the show.
“I don’t watch it [WWE] as much as I did because I’m just a little upset. I watch more RAW because SmackDown has Lacey on it, and it doesn’t upset me because I know she can’t put a Cobra Clutch on like I do, but it’s just the thought that she’s using a move without [permission].”
At this point it remains to be seen if WWE will end up changing Lacey’s gimmick once again, but her current character seems to be creating a lot of controversy, so it will be interesting to see where she goes from here.
