Diamond Dallas Page was able to make a name for himself in WCW and he made the jump over to WWE once World Championship Wrestling was purchased by their competition. DDP parted ways with WWE in 2002, but he was offered a big role with the company as he was on his way out.
The former WCW World Champion recently appeared on Busted Open Radio and he explained that WWE offered him a job working as an announcer with Kevin Dunn telling him he would likely end up on Raw.
“When I left [in 2002], I was so burnt out. Kevin Dunn asked me to go and do a test to be an announcer … They wanted me to do a spot, so I did it. I went up there [to WWE HQ in Stamford, CT] and I did it. Kevin called me back, he goes, ‘I love it. We’re gonna start you, not with SmackDown, we’re gonna start you with the satellite for the first month or two. You get your feet wet, you’ll be on SmackDown. In no time, you’re gonna be on Raw.”
Ultimately DDP turned the offer down, but Kevin Dunn told him to think about it noting that he thought DDP could be, “the next Jesse Ventura.”
