The Mae Young Classic was a couple of the most exciting nights in the history of women’s pro wrestling. 32 competitors traveled to Full Sail University from all over the globe in order to compete in a tournament to win the honor of being crowned with… what are they competing for anything? I mean, it’s a really cool tournament but so far no real prize has been mentioned that we’ve heard. Nevertheless, it’s still a great honor to be a part of this tournament in any way.
Naturally, there were loads of people showing up to be a part of this historic event who weren’t even competing in the tournament. Ronda Rousey made an appearance to support her friend and fellow Horsewomen Shayna Baszler and even had a chance to do a little taunting with WWE’s incarnation of the Horsewomen in the process.
A plethora of WWE Hall Of Famers and wrestling royalty showed up for the big event as well including Beth Phoenix. As it would turn out Beth did more than just watch the tournament because her husband Edge revealed on E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness that The Glamazon also got to do some commentary for a dark match on the show.
While it was just a dark match the fact that WWE let Beth Phoenix get on the announce table and commentate might be hinting at them letting her try it out. Edge said Beth told him she did a terrible job, but Christian pointed out he not only bets she did great but nobody’s perfect during their first time doing anything. Edge said the first year or so he wrestled was awful, but he kept at it. Obviously it worked out for him because he became the Rated R Superstar.
Only time will tell if WWE fans will get to hear Beth Phoenix make a jump to the announce table but since this was just a dark match we shouldn’t expect to see it on television. However it certainly appears as though WWE is still looking for legends who can fill in at the announce table to give that little bit of veteran color needed to tell a good story.
We’re sure Beth did a great job too and we certainly wouldn’t mind having her around more often.
