Earlier this year WWE Hall of Famer Donald Trump won the election, and he’s set to officially become the 45th President of the United States in 2017. Now another WWE Hall of Famer is looking to get into politics.
Saturday night during his “Heated Conversations” show on Sportsradio610, Booker T officially announced that in 2020 he plans to run for mayor of Houston, TX. Former SmackDown Tag Team Champion Rhyno recently ran for a seat in the Michigan House of Representatives, and although he didn’t win the election, he did offer Booker T some encouragement during the show.
“You are over qualified for the job,” Rhyno said via CBS. “Wrestling not only prepares you for life but it prepares you for positions like that because you feel the emotion from the people you know what they want, you’ve built yourself from where you were to where you’re at now.”
Booker T is currently working as a regular on WWE pre-show panels, and he’s a former World Champion, former Intercontinental Champion, former US Champion and a former Tag Team Champion.
Personalities involved with the professional wrestling business haven’t always had the easiest time making the transition into politics.
As noted above, Rhyno failed to win a seat in the Michigan House of Representatives, Linda McMahon tried, and failed twice to become a U.S. Senator, although she was recently appointed to a position in Donald Trump’s administration.
However, Donald Trump’s big election win is truth that it can be done, and Jesse Ventura also proved it can be done when he became Governor of Minnesota, so it should be interesting to see how things work out for Booker T in 2020.
