Drew McIntyre has had his fair share of ups and downs throughout his WWE career, but over the last few years he’s managed to achieve major success. The Scottish Warrior has won the Royal Rumble, main evented WrestleMania, and he’s also become a two time WWE Champion.
There’s no denying that Drew had to work hard to get to the top and it sounds like he had to deal with some interesting requests while working his way up the ladder in World Wrestling Entertainment.
Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. discussed Drew’s early days with the company on his Wrestling With Freddie podcast, and he noted that WWE wanted Drew McIntyre to drop his Scottish accent.
“They did it to English-speaking dudes like Drew McIntyre. So they did that with Drew McIntyre. When I first worked there, they called him up from FCW, and they’re like, ‘You have to lose the accent.’ I was like, ‘What? You can’t make him do that. He’s not a trained actor. He’s never worked on his voice. He is a big a*s dude from Scotland.'”
Drew McIntyre hasn’t appeared on WWE programming since WrestleMania 39 where he challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship in a triple threat match that also included Sheamus. McIntyre’s contract status has been a hot topic recently as it’s been reported that his deal with WWE is set to expire later this year.
It’s not clear when Drew McIntyre will be returning to TV, but following the 2023 WWE Draft he is set to be part of the Raw brand moving forward. Stay tuned for updates.
