WWE Fastlane: Neville vs. Jack Gallagher – Cruiserweight Championship

It’s purple rope time, which should be the best match of the night if your favorite color is purple. Other than that, there’s no real reason to be all that excited. WWE let these amazing cruiserweights loose on the WWE Universe and quickly soured on it.

Vince relegated the crusierweights to matches under five minutes, so there hasn’t been any real room for these great talents to truly flourish. True, Neville’s heel turn has been refreshing, but the WWE Universe deserves a decent showing of cruiserweights and although 205 Live is an entertaining show the division needs a shot in the arm.

Before the match, they showed the second Austin Aries wrestling promo of the night with Aries saying, “Let’s take a look at my beautiful package” before they played it. We have no words for that… it was just awesome. This is why Aries is The Greatest Man That Ever Lived.

Jack Gallagher and William III looked happy to be there, but Neville didn’t appear as amused. Gallagher attempted to utilize his unique offense, but Adrian Neville’s new no-nonsense approach quickly won out in spite of the fact Gentleman Jack is able to do a headstand in the corner for so long.

Gallagher’s strategy of shock and confuse didn’t really pay off much as Neville continued his stiff move-set. However, Gentleman Jack did shock in a way by taking a dive through the second rope to take out the champ when he followed it up with a nice looking superplex. Although, it didn’t get the job done.

Jack almost caught Neville with a roll-up pin but he ended up getting dropped on his head with a German suplex as payment. Neville hit a middle rope Phoenix Splash, but Gallagher miraculously kicked out. If people haven’t seen 205 Live yet, this match certainly gives them a reason to tune in on Tuesday nights.

Neville took two of those sick headbutts from Jack and he almost got pinned, but he kicked out at two-and-three-quarters. Neville dodged out of the way as Gallagher went for his running kick, but Gallagher hit Neville with another mean headbutt as Neville poised himself on the top turnbuckle.

Neville knocked Gallagher off the top rope and hit the seldom seen Red Arrow. God, that move is beautiful and it’s a shame he’s had to shelve it since he went heel. But, he really needed it tonight and used it to win the match and retain his WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Great match. Really. All of those “This is Awesome” chants throughout were well deserved.
