Nowadays wrestling fans are more than familiar with hearing the name Jon Moxley on AEW programming, but for many years the former AEW World Champion was known as Dean Ambrose in WWE.
Heel By Nature reports that in October of 2020 WWE filed a new trademark application for the name Dean Ambrose under the entertainment services classification, likely to maintain ownership of the IP associated with the Dean Ambrose character.
The USPTO issued of the filing on 3/10 citing issues in regards to identifying whether or not Dean Ambrose is a living individual, as WWE did not provide written consent.
Due to the fact that the person who used the Dean Ambrose name is indeed a living individual, the USPTO requires written consent from Jon Moxley. If the written consent is not provided the trademark filing could potentially be refused.
WWE has faced several similar issues regarding written consent while trying to trademark the names of talents in recent months.
Jon Moxley, real name Jonathan Good, took on the name Dean Ambrose in 2011, and he last competed as Dean Ambrose in WWE in 2019, shortly before he made the jump to AEW at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
