The Huffington Post is reporting that WWE executive Sal Siino is no longer with the company after THP brought his wife’s anti-islamic Twitter account to the attention of WWE officials.
The account in question @AmyMek, has more than 200,000 followers including Sean Hannity, Roseanne Barr and the personal account of Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The account has also been endorsed by Donald Trump and Michael Flynn.
Originally it was speculated that the account was run by some sort of Russian bot, but it turns out that the account belongs to Amy Jane Mekelburg, the wife of Sal Siino.
Mekelburg reportedly told a former friend that WWE officials were aware of the @AmyMek Twitter account, and they told Sal Siino to keep his connection to his wife quiet.
However, when The Huffington Post reached out to WWE and asked about the claim, they responded with:
“This is the first time we’re hearing about Amy Mekelburg,” said a corporate spokesperson who asked not to be named.
THP reached out to WWE a second time to ask if they knew about the account, that’s when they confirmed that Sal is no longer an employee.
“No,” said the WWE spokesperson. “Now that it has come to our attention, Sal Siino is no longer an employee.”
Siino joined WWE in 2017 as the Senior Vice President of Global Content Distribution and Business Development.
