WWE caught some heat recently and accusations of sexism are being thrown their way because of two segments that aired on WWE programming last week. People are calling out WWE for The Rock “slut shaming” Lana during their segment on Raw and people are also upset over Ric Flair kissing Becky Lynch at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
For anyone that missed it, Flair grabbed Becky while she was attacking Charlotte then forcefully kissed her on the lips to distract her. Although that type of tactic has been used in wrestling in the past, and this is of course a fictional television show, people are labeling it as “sexual harassment.”
Now the Ric Flair/Becky Lynch kiss has been edited out of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on the WWE Network. The kiss originally happened around the 1 hr and 30 minute mark of the show but now when Ric Flair grabs Becky’s head and then the two are seen face to face. The kiss is nowhere to be found. It’s not confirmed that WWE edited it out because of the controversy, but all things considered, it seems pretty likely.
WWE also issued the following statement a few days ago as a response to the criticism the two segments received:
“WWE programming, which features fictional characters that cover a range of personalities similar to movies and television shows, tells stories of good versus evil. In addition, as our on-going storylines develop, we will continue to position women as both strong competitors and compelling individuals.”
