Nia Jax surprised a lot of people when she challenged her next challenger and picked the NBC Upfronts as the place to do it. Now Ronda Rousey will take on Nia Jax for the Raw Women’s Title at Money In The Bank.
Although the segment where Jax challenged Rousey was sloppy even already even though Charlotte Flair did her best to keep it going, it was still well-written to a certain extent. At least Rowdy Rousey had a chance to decline the invitation at first saying there are far more suitable people the challenge Jax for her title. However, only at Charlotte Flair’s insistence Rousey accepted the big match.
But has WWE painted themselves into a corner here? They could always have Rousey lose in some way at Money In The Bank because they don’t want another undefeated streak getting out of hand after they just killed Asuka’s at WrestleMania. But there is also the issue that anyone in a match against Nia Jax has a stronger likelihood of being injured just because she is so powerful and her move set is extremely intense. WWE doesn’t need to risk injuring Ronda Rousey.
But if WWE gives the Raw Women’s Title to Ronda Rousey at Money In The Bank it opens up an entirely different potential problem for WWE and their most well-known female Superstar.
“So you’re risking [Ronda] getting booed and if you’re thinking someday she could be a heel, it’s too early especially with the reaction she got at WrestleMania,” Dave Meltzer said during Wrestling Observer Radio. “It’s not time to turn her heel or risk the situation where you have that thing. Again, Nia Jax is a babyface even though she didn’t get cheered in her last match at all.”
Therefore they really need to book their way out of this match with either a screw-job finish or possibly a Money In The Bank cash-in with someone intended to get heat walking away with the Raw Women’s Title. Alexa Bliss’ insertion in women’s ladder match for a championship contract is very interesting because anything is possible at this point. After all, we were all expecting Ronda Rousey vs Mickie James.
