A few weeks ago Vince McMahon returned to Raw and he announced the Wild Card Rule which allows four Superstars to jump from SmackDown Live to Raw, and vice versa.
The Wild Card Rule helps WWE when it comes to star power on TV, but in that same regard it hurts the amount of star power that the SmackDown crew can bring to live events on Monday nights.
WWE recently canceled a Monday night live event which was scheduled to take place in Lowell, MA on 5/20, and the event was canceled only three days before.
The company was promoting the show via email only hours before it was canceled, and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the decision to cancel the event likely came out of a TV meeting after WWE officials realized they had pulled too many stars from the live event to have them appear on Raw.
This is the second last minute cancelation for a SmackDown live event on a Monday in the last three weeks.
The idea is to have top guys work Monday Night Raw to keep the ratings from falling, but it’s being said that the cancelations could become a regular thing for WWE.
It’s worth noting that the SmackDown events on Mondays are expected to be the lowest drawing shows of the week, but they are usually held in markets that don’t get live events very often.
