Sunday night WWE Payback aired on the WWE Network, and almost every Raw title was on the line. Of course Brock Lesnar is the current Universal Champion, so fans know better than to expect that title to be defended once a month.
One of the titles that was defended at Payback on Sunday was the Raw Women’s Championship. Bayley defeated Charlotte to win the title a few months ago at Fastlane, and most expected her to have a long run, but it was cut short when Alexa Bliss won the belt in San Jose.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Alexa Bliss winning the Raw Women’s Championship wasn’t always the plan, as the finish for the match was reportedly changed four times.
On Saturday afternoon the decision was made for Bayley to go over, but the finish was then changed early on Sunday. The finish apparently changed two more times on Sunday.
Bayley got a big reaction from the fans in her hometown, but as we’ve seen in the past, WWE stars are often booked to lose when they perform in their hometown.
The reason for this is because Vince McMahon believes that having a face get beaten of humiliated in their own hometown is a great way to generate heat.
Judging from the opening of Monday Night Raw this week, it looks like Alexa Bliss is being positioned as the top heel on the red brand, so it should be interesting to see how long she holds on to the belt.
