SmackDown General Manager Paige promised to reveal the next challenger for AJ Styles’ WWE Championship during this week’s episode, and although she didn’t officially make the announcement, AJ’s next challenger was revealed.
Paige called AJ Styles down to the ring, and he said that he’s proud to defend the most prestigious championship in the world at SummerSlam.
Styles said he’s going to turn the heat up at SummerSlam, and he signed the contract before his opponent was revealed.
Paige then prepared to announce AJ’s opponent, but James Ellsworth interrupted her announcement and introduced himself.
Ellsworth talked trash to Paige for a while, and then she got in his face and told him she had two words for him, “you’re fired.”
James Ellsworth was then carried backstage by security, and Paige kicked him in the butt as he went flying through the exit.
Back in the ring, Samoa Joe choked Styles out with the Coquina Clutch then signed the contract for SummerSlam.
