A few weeks ago Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of WWE after leaving their Women’s Tag Team Championship belts on the desk of John Laurinaitis.
WWE later announced that Banks and Naomi had been suspended indefinitely, and that a tournament would be held to crown new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. However, WWE has yet to announce any concrete plans for the tournament.
It was recently noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that talk of the tag team tournament has died, and there’s been no word on plans for the tournament. WWE reportedly had a plan pitched for four teams, but as of a week ago the plan had not been signed off on.
At one point it was reported that one idea for the tournament involved calling up teams from NXT. It’s not clear if WWE will be going in that direction now. Stay tuned for more updates on plans for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles as they become available.
