WWE Could Be Bringing Back Twelve-Year-Old PPV Idea

Remember how exciting it was to feel like fans had total control of what would happen in WWE with the click of a button? WWE has done several voting gimmicks before in the long history of the company including a letter writing campaign to determine who won the 1994 Royal Rumble. WWE even dedicated an entire pay-per-view to the idea of fans choosing something about every match but they haven’t done it in a while.

Taboo Tuesday was an innovative concept at the time and while some people had questions concerning its legitimacy folks such as Bruce Prichard have sworn the voting was a total shoot although WWE did stack the options sometimes in order to encourage a certain result. Taboo Tuesday became Cyber Sunday for a few years, but we haven’t seen an online voting themed PPV since 2008.

An actual Tabboo Tuesday event hasn’t been seen in twelve years but WWE might be thinking about dusting off this old event idea very soon. According to PWInsider, WWE applied for a trademark for Taboo Tuesday with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on July 24.

Wording for the trademark is intended for: “entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment; fan club services, namely, organizing and staging events with wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the field of sports entertainment; online journals, namely, blogs in the fields of sports entertainment.”

Of course, WWE could always be using this Tabboo Tuesday idea as a theme for SmackDown Live down the line because the blue brand plays on Tuesday nights now. If the Punjabi Prison Match has taught us anything it’s that nothing can be gone too long for WWE to bring back. Only time will tell if WWE will open the polls up for voting once again so fans can determine what match-ups and gimmicks they’ll see in the ring.

After all, nostalgia is the best thing ever.
