Kurt Angle’s return to the ring was unexpected because it came on the heels of a viral infection outbreak in the Raw locker room. It wasn’t an ideal condition for a Kurt Angle return but it was still great to have him back in the ring.
But apparently, Kurt Angle was always supposed to get back in the ring it’s just that it ended up happening much sooner than WWE had planned. TLC was a very nice way for it to happen though and it resulted in a pretty epic main event full of storytelling.
Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE already had Kurt Angle penciled in to have a big match at WrestleMania. There were rumors WWE might be using Kurt Angle at Survivor Series but that doesn’t appear to be happening now.
Therefore, Angle’s next match is likely to take place at WrestleMania 34. There is a long list of possible opponents for the Olympic Hero including Triple H, AJ Styles, Finn Balor, John Cena, Roman Reigns, and The Undertaker. Of course, some of those guys already have opponents chosen by WWE, therefore, you can probably narrow down the actual choices yourself. One of those choices also might be retired which is sad.
But whatever happens at Mania will be very cool if it involves Kurt Angle. As long as WWE still has plans for The Olympic Hero to lace up his wrestling boots once more it will be good enough for me.
Out of all the people listed above Triple H might be the most likely opponent. This might come to fruition through a Stephanie McMahon return to Raw which might cause Angle to eventually clash with a heel authority figure. Since Triple H likes to fight Stephanie’s battles for her, I could certainly see this match happening.
Of course, I wouldn’t complain about seeing AJ Style or Finn Balor vs Kurt Angle in a WWE ring. But to be honest, I probably wouldn’t complain about anything involving Kurt Angle wrestling a match in New Orleans.
