John Cena competed in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event when he faced off against Gunther, and the match is sure to be talked about for years to come. When it was all said and done Gunther picked up the victory when he made John Cena tap out, and the finish was not well received by the fans.
During the Saturday Night’s Main Event post-show Triple H was booed by the fans and he joked that he thought the reaction would be louder. However, Dave Meltzer claimed on Wrestling Observer Radio that people in WWE were blindsided by the negative reaction to the finish.
“There are many people in WWE who did not agree with that decision, but the guy in charge did it. The one thing that I can say is that even though they may say something different publicly, they were blindsided by that reaction.”
“The idea that like we did it, we knew it was gonna get heat, just the price we pay, like they’re all chanting and he’s going ‘nahh, I thought it would be louder,’ that was a defense mechanism. I don’t wanna say there was no discussion of a reaction but I was told there was no discussion of a reaction.”
Gunther kicked off Monday Night Raw this week and he was heavily booed by the fans as he taunted them by reminding everyone that he made John Cena tap out. A feud with AJ Styles was also seemingly teased for Gunther on Raw.
