Last night at WWE Battleground Dean Ambrose retained the WWE Championship. Given that Dean Ambrose is a SmackDown Superstar, that means the title is now exclusive to SmackDown.
Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon called the entire WWE Raw roster to the stage at the beginning of this week’s show and they announced that they have created a new championship called the WWE Universal Championship. Mick Foley said that the name was in honor of the WWE Universe.
Foley announced that two Fatal 4 Way matches will take place on Monday Night Raw and the winner of each match will go on to face each other tonight. The winner of that match will then go on to face Raw’s number 1 draft pick Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
The first Fatal 4 Way match will feature Cesaro, Rusev, Kevin Owens and Finn Balor. The second match will feature Sami Zayn, Chris Jericho, Sheamus and Roman Reigns. Stay tuned for updates.
