Business has certainly picked up over the last few weeks as WWE seems to be reshuffling the deck when it comes to the main roster. A number of NXT stars have been getting called up to Raw and SmackDown, and now it appears that another name is likely main roster bound.
On Tuesday night NXT New Year’s Evil aired live and Oba Femi successfully defended the NXT Championship against Leon Slater in the main event. After the match Oba Femi left his NXT Championship in the middle of the ring, but official explanation was given as the show went off the air.
Today WWE confirmed that Oba Femi vacated the NXT Championship when the company posted the following announcement:
“🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
After his victory at #NewYearsEvil, Oba Femi has officially vacated the #WWENXT Championship. Stay tuned for more details.”

There’s currently no word on how WWE is planning to crown a new champion, but it looks like a new era of NXT is set to kick off sooner rather than later.
Oba Femi has been rumored for the WWE main roster for some time as the company has been airing vignettes promoting the former NXT Champion on both Raw and SmackDown.
Stay tuned for updates.
