Conor McGregor announced his retirement from MMA yesterday and the rumor mill is already buzzing about the possibility of Conor possibly coming to WWE. WWE is playing up the rumors and they released a new video where Cathy Kelley talks about how Becky Lynch invited McGregor to join the company. She also mentions how Conor McGregor’s coach posted a photo of Jimmy Hart on Instagram with the caption “New job uniform.” After mentioning those two things she just says, “Yes, yes a million times yes to this,” before changing the subject.
Conor McGregor followed Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H on Twitter over WrestleMania weekend and he also messed with fans who were wondering if he was at the event. First McGregor said he wasn’t at the event.
But then he made everyone wonder.
WWE recently added fuel to the fire by following Conor McGregor on Twitter and it seems like it would be a no brainer for WWE to set up a meeting with McGregor is his retirement is legitimate. It’s being reported by Anthony DiMoro of Forbes that sources are saying WWE believes Conor McGregor is very marketable and a perfect candidate to make the jump from UFC to WWE.
There’s still a lot of controversy surrounding the retirement but the situation seems to have been created due to a disagreement about promotional appearances for UFC 200.
“Conor didn’t want to come to Las Vegas and be part of any promotional training,” White told the press. “He’s in Iceland training. He felt leaving right now would hurt his training. But every other fighter on the card is coming.”
When asked about the retirement UFC President Dana White told The Herd that he doesn’t believe the retirement is legitimate. He added that McGregor needs to clear up his status in the near future.
“Conor needs to clear up this whole retirement thing and clear it up fast because if he’s retired, then at UFC 200 Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar are fighting for the vacant title then.”
