The WWE 2K series has become an annual staple for fans who like to play video games, but it doesn’t look like the series will be getting another entry this year, as a former WWE games writer has posted a video on YouTube claiming plans for the game have been scrapped.
Jason Leeper notes in the video that he’s heard from his sources that WWE 2K21 will not be released this year because the game has been cancelled, which is why there has been no announcement on the game.
He went on to claim that 2K will be publishing a different kind of WWE game this year, from a different kind of game developer.
He also noted that back in December he heard chances of the game getting canceled were 50/50.
There are plans to release WWE 2K22 in 2021, and it’s being said that the game won’t be released on next gen consoles, but rather current generation consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One.
Leeper also posted the following on Twitter:
I’m not a fan of bringing “bad news,” but it’s post-WrestleMania & I think fans deserve to know:
I’ve heard on good authority that WWE 2K21 has been cancelled.
However, another WWE branded game will enter the ring this year…https://t.co/zRhyz18ONI pic.twitter.com/ai10YXwy3z— Justin Leeper だよ! (@JustinLeeper_yo) April 11, 2020
I don’t enjoy being negative.
I’m good at it! I don’t enjoy it.
I don’t enjoy delivering bad news.
For every 50 positive responses, there’s 1 acting like I killed their dog.
But ppl need to know:
Yuke’s was fired
2K20 was based on 2K18
2K21 isn’t coming out
If I gotta be the 1… https://t.co/EBy4bF4iUV— Justin Leeper だよ! (@JustinLeeper_yo) April 13, 2020
