In the world of pro wrestling you never know when bad news can strike. Then again that rings true when with life in general. Luck was not on the side of pro wrestling legend Harley Race this week, he had an awful accident that required immediate surgery to fix.
WWE.com reports Harley Race fell at his residence in Troy, Missouri on Tuesday this week. Race reportedly “sustained a fracture to his right femur and suffered breaks in his fibula and tibia, as well as a spiral break of his left ankle. He was required to undergo surgery right away to repair his injuries.”
Race’s surgery was immediate in an attempt to reduce the swelling in his legs due to the accident. Since his surgery, the pro wrestling legend has received four blood transfusions. He also had a second surgery on Friday to reset his leg fractures.
The 74-year-old WWE Hall Of Famer attended a WWE house show in Missouri earlier this year. While at the event, Harley Race got the chance to hang out with then #DIY member Tommaso Ciampa who he had previously trained while working for Race’s World League Wrestling promotion.
Tommaso Ciampa is no stranger to ankle injuries either. Ciampa suffered an injury at the Highland Heights house show recently and still performed at TakeOver: Chicago later that week. Due to his injury Ciampa was forced to go under the knife himself to repair the damage. He is expected to be out for a while too. The former NXT Tag Team Champion tweeted out a message of hope and condolences for Harley Race and his family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Harley Race and we hope he’s able to make a full recovery. Keep up the good fight, Harley. Still Real To Us is pulling for you!
