There has been a lot up in the air recently in regards to how the WrestleMania card will be stacked this year. They recently moved the SmackDown Women’s Title match from being a kickoff show contest to a main card encounter and new reports are even more late changes are being made to the card’s order.
For months it has been reported Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title would close out WrestleMania. After all, Goldberg has promised a “blood fest.” But new reports concerning the matter are out and it looks like it could confirm some of our worst fears about The Undertaker’s WWE future.
Dave Meltzer said in a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that the word going around backstage is The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns is now scheduled to close out WrestleMania 33. This very well might mean The Undertaker is taking his last ride in a WWE ring.
It would be poetic though for The Undertaker to retire in the same venue where Ric Flair had his final match at nine years prior. While fans might not want to see this happen, it seems to be the plan right now.
The change has been made for a number of reasons including the fact WWE officials don’t see Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton as being important enough to close out the show. There is also concern about how long Goldberg and Brock Lesnar can go at this point. Even though Goldberg promised we would see a much longer match between the two at WrestleMania, that could even mean a five-minute encounter.
WWE has a history of ending their shows on a happy note or in a manner that will get people talking. Therefore, The Undertaker losing in definitive fashion would certainly fulfill that criteria. Roman Reigns is expected to get booed out of the building too. So, don’t be surprised if WrestleMania 33 ends with a defeated The Dead Man walking slowly up the aisle for the last time.
