PWInsider reports that there are a few names currently being batted around backstage as opponents for Triple H just in case Seth Rollins isn’t cleared to go again in time for WrestleMania. And, the name making the rounds in the last 24 hours is Shane McMahon.
Shane and Triple H have a storied history of alleged legit backstage heat with each other, and while this would be an interesting match-up it does leave another gaping hole in the WrestleMania landscape. If they went with Shane vs. Hunter at WrestleMania 33, then AJ Styles wouldn’t have a dance partner at the show of shows.
Dave Meltzer reported that AJ Styles and Shane McMahon was the planned match-up in Orlando, so if Triple H takes over that feud it would leave the Phenomenal One without anybody to square up against on April 2nd.
This is just another example of WWE having to totally move things around when someone is taken out of action. As we have previously reported, Seth Rollins has been pulled from house shows, and although his recovery time is within the time-frame of Mania, nothing is certain at this point.
One school of thought would be that if Shane is rearranged to fit into a rivalry with Triple H, then AJ Styles might be finally free to face off against a returning Finn Balor. While those theories are nothing more than speculation at this point, it would certainly provide an excellent opportunity for fans to finally see a battle between the two former leaders of The Bullet Club.
Another option for AJ Styles would be Samoa Joe. Early reports were that Joe was slated to take on John Cena at WrestleMania, but since Cena is now being put into a mixed tag match with Nikki Bella against Miz and Maryse Samoa Joe is left without a WrestleMania match-up as well.
It is really too early to tell which way they’ll go with future feuds, however WWE did say that they will make an official announcement regarding Seth Rollins’ status Monday night on Raw. Hopefully things will be cleared up soon, and they need to do something quick to lay new ground work for these big matches because we’re already well on our way down the Road to WrestleMania.
