Brian Alvarez went into the entire “Paigegate” scandal on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Live and the subject was breached on whether or not either Paige or Xavier Woods, who are featured in these leaked sex tapes, will receive any punishment or even possibly be fired from WWE. The fact is it all comes down to whether or not they were in violation of the morality clause in their WWE contracts.
Alvarez drew the comparison to say if Paige got mad at WWE and wanted to take herself to an actual studio and film a boatload of adult movies to have released online, then she would certainly be in violation of the clause. But, the fact of the matter is that this media was stolen and neither Paige or Xavier Woods intended for these privately owned movies and pictures to be seen by anyone.
Brian said the key to this is the morality clause focuses heavily on your social media. He said the presumption is that it is the superstars themselves are posting all the media put online in their name. He said a lot of posts have to get approved and that’s why “you don’t want to tweet after midnight, you don’t want to tweet after you’ve been drinking.”
He said if a superstar does screw up online and can claim they were hacked, then they might be able to skate free. But, Paige’s material was totally hacked and stolen so they can’t blame her. Therefore, there’s nothing they can do in regards to the morality clause.
This does set a very interesting precedent because this might not be the first time a WWE star’s nude photos have leaked online *cough* Seth Rollins *cough*, but it is certainly the most explicit by a mile.
Bryan Alvarez said of the picture of the NXT Women’s Championship “defilement”, he didn’t think this will weigh into anything because ultimately she wasn’t the one “defiling” the championship. It was noted that the person who was most likely “defiling” the belt, Brad Maddox is no longer employed with WWE. For anyone wondering, the NXT Women’s Championship belt in the picture isn’t the same one Asuka is holding today because they had a brand new belt made a while ago.
It will be an interesting Raw on Monday night, for sure. Whether or not WWE decides to hide New Day from the live audience or keep them to pre-taped backstage segments to save them from the notoriously brutal Brooklyn crowd remains to be seen.
But, as of right now Paige and Xavier Woods are still WWE employees and barring any extreme upcoming events it looks like they’ll remain with the company. It’ll make for a very interesting WrestleMania since New Day is going to host the show of shows, and we’re sure Xavier Woods will be highly featured, which probably isn’t going to change as of right now.
