This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw took place from Cleveland, OH and Seth Rollins was originally set to hold an open challenge for his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However, as Seth Rollins made his way down to the ring he was attacked by Finn Balor who hit him with the Coup de Grace several times. Balor later attacked Rollins again backstage.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the open challenge was removed by Vince McMahon as Vince wanted to find a way to heat up Finn Balor’s feud with Seth Rollins.
“The open challenge was supposed to happen till the last minute. Vince changed… the first 30 minutes of the show, I heard, was totally changed. Vince really wanted this… the whole Seth Rollins angle with Finn Balor, I think he just wanted something big, something bigger for Seth Rollins and Finn Balor, just to heat up Finn Balor.
“To be fair, I know people who are there who told me, ‘Look, as far as the 30 minutes that Vince put in, it was better than the 30 minutes that was taken out.'”
Despite the beatdown that took place on Monday night Seth Rollins is still expected to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship during tonight’s episode of NXT.
