Vince McMahon is arguably the most powerful man in the world of professional wrestling, and at one point in time he was also a mainstay on WWE programming.
The Vince McMahon character quickly became one of the biggest heels in the industry during The Attitude Era, but nowadays appearances from Vince McMahon on WWE programming are few and far between.
Eric Bischoff recently talked about the debut episode of SmackDown on FOX on his 83 Weeks podcast, and he noted that Stephanie McMahon had to convince her father to appear on the show because Vince feels his time as a character has come and gone.
“I think there was some awareness from Vince’s part that his time on television as a character was in his rear view mirror. Especially when you’re as powerful of a character as Vince McMahon was and is. It’s so easy to dominate/overshadow everything else that was on the show. Once you go out there and you establish yourself on camera when you’re a character like Vince McMahon has been for so long, it’s easy to fall into the trap of doing it too often and going back to that well.”
