Roman Reigns has been the face of WWE for years now, but he spent most of his time working as a babyface. There’s no denying that WWE pushed Roman to the moon as a face, but the push wasn’t always well received as fans would often boo Roman even though the company clearly wanted him to be cheered.
During a recent episode of the Oh You Didn’t Know? podcast WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg explained that just about everyone wanted to turn Roman Reigns heel in 2018 except for Vince McMahon. The former Intercontinental Champion added that Vince held off on the turn because his timing is usually better that everyone else’s timing.
“Probably everybody, everybody but Vince. Because Vince’s timing is more on point than everybody else’s.”
While talking about Vince McMahon’s reasons for not turning Roman, Road Dogg added, “The minute you start feeling like ‘Oh, he’s a heel,’ it’s like ‘No, wait a second. Wait, it’ll heat up worse.'”
Roman Reigns finally did turn heel in 2020 when he introduced the world to The Tribal Chief character and he’s about to cross 1,000 days as champion. One way or another it’s clear that the heel turn has taken Roman’s career to the next level.
