For decades The Undertaker and Sting were two of the biggest names in the business and many fans considered a potential Sting vs. Undertaker match to be a dream match.
In 2014, Sting officially joined WWE which led to a lot of hope among fans that the match would finally happen. However, the match was never booked and Sting ended up parting ways with WWE in 2020 after his contract expired. Now there’s no chance of the match happening as both Sting and Undertaker have retired from in-ring competition.
Dave Meltzer talked about the potentially dream match on Wrestling Observer Radio and noted that it was Vince McMahon’s call not to do it as he didn’t see Sting at the level of The Undertaker.
“That’s a Vince call. And in hindsight, I guess the answer is no. He never saw the big thing in it that a lot of people did. He could have done it. Many people would have wanted him to do it. I don’t think he saw Sting at the level of Undertaker. And he didn’t do it.”
It was noted that if someone else was in charge there’s likely a good chance the match would have happened as Vince didn’t think The Undertaker vs. Sting was a dream match to the WWE audience.
