The 30 man Royal Rumble match was loaded with big names as Roman Reigns, John Cena, CM Punk and more all entered the match last weekend as they attempted to secure a title shot at WrestleMania.
Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins were eliminated by CM Punk, and Seth Rollins followed up by taking Roman out with a stomp on the steel ring steps. The next night on Raw it was announced that The Tribal Chief is out of action for the foreseeable future.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the angle was done to keep Roman Reigns out of the Elimination Chamber. Roman wasn’t planned to win the match, so if here to enter the Elimination Chamber that means he would have to be pinned. WWE doesn’t want top faces like Reigns or Rhodes to lose via pin unless there is a major storyline related reason for doing so.
The expectation is that Roman Reigns will be facing off against Seth Rollins and CM Punk in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 41. Since CM Punk is in the Elimination Chamber match WWE would be able to announce the Reigns vs. Rollins vs. Punk match until after March 1st.
