John Cena has won his fair share of Royal Rumble matches in the past and he recently declared that he would be entering this year’s Royal Rumble match.
However, WWE announced on Monday that Cena injured his ankle last week during the Raw main event, and that his status for the Royal Rumble match is now in question.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Cena isn’t legitimately injured, and the announcement was a work. John Cena is filming a movie in Vancouver this week, so it seems that the injury may be WWE’s way of writing Cena out of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
It was recently reported that original plans for John Cena at WrestleMania 35 called for him to work with Lars Sullivan, and it’s been speculated that their feud was supposed to kick off at the Royal Rumble.
However, Lars Sullivan has yet to make his debut on the main roster, and it’s not clear when he will be appearing on Raw or SmackDown Live.
