For months it’s been rumored that WWE officials had plans to split up Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler, and on Monday night it finally happened.
McIntyre turned on Ziggler, and then Baron Corbin booked the former partners in a singles match.
To the surprise of many, Dolph Ziggler actually ended up defeated Drew McIntyre and the announcers then noted that it was McIntyre’s first loss since returning to the WWE main roster earlier this year.
McIntyre is clearly in line for a big push, but Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Ziggler picked up a win over McIntyre so that their feud can be extended.
“I think the whole thing is to set up that Drew is probably going to destroy Finn Balor. It’s an excuse to keep the Ziggler thing going with multiple matches. Because if McIntyre just beat Ziggler in the first match, there’s nothing to come back for.”
Meltzer went on to note that WWE officials like to make sure that no one on the roster has an undefeated streak.
Do you think it was the right call to have Ziggler end McIntyre’s streak? Sound off in the comments below.
