We’re only a few days away from Hell in a Cell and WWE has announced that John Cena will hold his US Open Challenge at the pay-per-view. After Hell in a Cell John Cena is taking two months off as he’s currently scheduled to return at the Madison Square Garden live event on December 26th.
Although Cena is scheduled to defend his title at the event, cards are always subject to change and we would hope that WWE doesn’t want to see their United States Championship disappear for two months. Should WWE decide to let someone else carry the US Championship torch for a while, there’s a clear choice waiting in the wings and that’s none other than Dean Ambrose.
Cena has brought prestige and credibility to the belt with his US Open Challenge. But in order for the belt to maintain its integrity in Cena’s absence it will need a fighting champion and Dean Ambrose is never afraid of a fight. Does Dean Ambrose deserve it? Sure. But in all honesty, he needs it and here’s why.
It’s Dean’s Time To Shine
Dean Ambrose has been the star of the show in the past during his on again, off again feud with Seth Rollins. Whenever Ambrose is the focus of the show he more than delivers with entertaining segments and a “devil may care” in ring style. He’s proved that he can carry a show on his back and when he’s given the ball, he runs with it.
Seth Rollins is the current WWE Champion and Roman Reigns seems destined to become WWE Champion in the near future. That leaves Dean Ambrose as the only member of The Shield without much to do now that his feud with The Wyatt Family seems to be winding down. Ambrose is crazy, the fans like him and a run with the US Championship would give him purpose in the WWE landscape.
The US Open Challenge Needs To Continue
John Cena has defended the US Title week in and week out and someone needs to carry on that legacy. It might not even be a bad idea to make the US Open Challenge mandatory for whoever holds the title. For the past few months the US Open Challenge has been one of the most exciting parts of Raw and Dean Ambrose can keep the momentum going.
Ambrose has held the US Championship before, but his lack of title defenses became a running joke among fans. This time things could be different. The US Open Challenge has done wonders for both John Cena and his challengers. Having a title match on Raw every week adds excitement to what has unfortunately become a dull show over the past few weeks. Furthermore, several successful title defenses could go a long way in convincing fans that aren’t quite sold on him, that Dean Ambrose has what it takes to be a true champion.
Beating John Cena For The Belt Would Make Dean Ambrose A Made Man
It’s not often that John Cena gets beat, but when someone puts him down for the three count in the middle of the ring, you remember it. CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan and more can all claim victories over John Cena and it could be argued that a victory over Cena is just as valuable as winning a championship.
Having Dean Ambrose beat John Cena would get a lot of fans talking and it would create an even bigger buzz around the US Championship. All it takes is three seconds for Dean Ambrose to become one of the most legitimate Superstars on the WWE roster and it would be three seconds well spent. In Cena’s absence WWE is going to need another good guy that fans can get behind and a victory over John Cena would get fans to pay attention to Dean Ambrose.
What do you guys think, should Dean Ambrose become the next US Champion? Should it be somebody else? Sound off below.
